I was shocked to learn that Adam 'Marty' Martin passed away over the weekend. Known affectionately as the 'door bitch' to many lanners, it is safe to say that each and every one of you has come to know Marty throughout the many years he has served as an AWL Admin. While Marty was chiefly known for handling entrances, I will remember him for the much greater role he occupied behind the scenes as the glue binding the admin team, and our LANs, together.
On behalf of the remaining Admin team and the local LAN community, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Marty for his significant contributions, and also our condolences to his family. Our thoughts are with his wife Kym, his children Jarrod and Breeah and his wider family, at this most difficult of times.
A service to celebrate Marty's life will be held at The Chapel of Conway Funeral Home, 20 South Street, Wodonga at 10.30am on Wednesday, November 27, 2013
You were taken far, far too young and will be sorely missed my friend. RIP Marty.

We're back with another LAN on Saturday, 1 June 2013 at Wodonga's new "Cube" venue (across from the water tower on Hovel St).
There is an on-premise cafe and as we are at the heart of the city, a variety of eateries and Coles are within walking distance.
Due to venue constraints, you must be packed up and out of the venue before midnight or you'll turn into a pumpkin. To that effect, we are starting the event at 12pm (lunch time), to make up for the slightly earlier finish.
Hope to see you there.
Summary: Venue: The Cube, Wodonga Cost: $18 Starts: 12pm 01/06/2013, Finishes: 11:59pm 01/06/2013 - ~12 hours of LAN BYO completely working, gaming-capable, computer with 100BASE-TX capable NIC, antivirus & firewall software, along with any games and accessories you wish to use. No speakers are allowed (including headphones as loud as speakers). You get: 1 x 10A/~230V AC Type 1 power socket (bring a non-UPS power board if you need more), 1 x short T568A CAT5/6 cable with a 8P8C ("RJ45") connector, room for 1 computer and 1 LCD monitor of <= 30". You accept: all responsibility and liability for any and all damage to your property (both physical and intellectual, e.g. data), as well as any liability resulting from your negligent actions. You have off-site backups, as per industry standard practice, of any valuable data. You don't bring anything of exceptional (material or personal) value given the possibility of loss.

We're back with another LAN on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Wodonga's new "Cube" venue (same place as the old hall, across from the water tower on Hovel St).
Sadly there will be no sausages. There is an on-premise cafe and as we are at the heart of the city, a variety of eateries are in walking distance.

Summary: Venue: The Cube, Wodonga Cost: $18 Starts: 12pm 16/03/2013, Finishes: 11:59pm 16/03/2013 - ~12 hours of LAN Prizes, but no snags. BYO completely working, gaming-capable, computer with working NIC & own antivirus & firewall, along with any games you wish to play No speakers allowed (that includes headphones that sound like speakers from across the room) You get: 1 power point, 1 network point, room for 1 computer and 1 monitor of <= 30"

After a year's venue-related hiatus, we're back with a LAN on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Wodonga's brand spanking new "Cube" venue (same place as the old hall, across from the water tower on Hovel St). We'll be commemorating long-time lanner and friend, Jim Murphy, with a new annual competition in his honour, as well as holding a belated Bob memorial Halo comp.
There will be some prizes, but sadly there will be no more sausages. There is now an on-premise cafe and as we are once again at the heart of the city, we don't envision this being a serious problem; a variety of eateries are in walking distance of the venue.
The entry cost for this LAN will be $18 to accommodate an increase in running costs pertaining largely to the new venue. We feel that this still constitutes exceptional value for money entertainment-wise for 12 hours of LANage when compared to a couple of hours at the cinema or a night out. We will be trialling wireless internet technology as a value-added service to ensure that modern games are still viable at our events, but we offer no guarantees on its capability, stability or accessibility just yet. This means that we hope that Steam games will become more practical, and we're looking at hosting online game-servers, like battlefield 3, for games that are 'internet only play'. But again, nothing is yet set in stone, so no guarantees are yet offered on the above. Prizes are all donated, so they are not coming out of the new entry price.
Due to venue constraints, you must be packed up and out of the venue before midnight or you'll turn into a pumpkin. To that effect, we are starting the event a bit earlier, at 12pm (lunch time), to make up for the slightly earlier finish.
We hope to see you there. If the event is a success in terms of patronage, we anticipate holding more regularly scheduled events into the future.

I have received the shocking news of Jim Murphy's (AKA Guru) passing yesterday evening (3/3/12) due to a heart attack.
Our thoughts are with his children, Jesse (also a lanner), Brandon and Samantha along with his fiance Kylie-Anne Evans (AKA ice-queen) and children Billy, Dylan and Nathan at this difficult time.
Jim had been a staple of the local LAN scene, having been a notable figure since I started lanning some 15 years ago at a Lavington church. Since AWL's inception, Jim had become a part of the furniture, having attended nearly every AWL event and having touched the lives of most everyone there in some way. I will remember Jim as one of the kindest people I have ever met, who was always willing to help out or have a chat.
Jim's funeral will be held on the 9th of March, 2012 at 11:30am at John Hossack funeral home in Wilson St, Albury (opposite centrelink). All friends and family are welcome.
You were taken far too young, Jim, at the prime of your life with so much to look forward to. RIP Guru, we will all miss you terribly.
